FREE GAMES

I'm constantly making games. Can't stop. Most of these games aren't big enough, good enough, or complete enough to sell. So I'm putting them here, free for you to download and try.

No guarantees, but I hope you find some joy in them. Feel free to leave me feedback on the forums.

ROCKET SPRINGS
Released 1/2/2009
Windows DirectX 9
This is my attempt at a physics-based puzzle game. You start with a goal and some obstacles, connect your nodes with rods (springs), add one or more rocket motors, and press SPACE to run the simulation. Hours of twiddly fun!

SPACE HACKER
Released 9/1/2008
Windows DirectX 9
What if you were on a spaceship, surrounded by alien robot spaceships, and you could dock with them and actually modify the programming code that operates them? This was my attempt at an answer. WAY too hard for all the people I showed it to. :(

TRACK RACER
Released 1/8/2008
Windows DirectX 8
I first built a 2D verlet "Jelly Box" physics engine, then moved on to a 3D version. I added a spline-based editable track, and then spent a while building a racing AI that could handle it (thanks, Game Programming Gems books). It's much more prototype than game.

ORBIT MASTER
Released 7/27/2006
Windows DirectX 8
This is a full-featured, 30-level game about swinging your spaceship around the comets with a grappling hook. It was very fun, many people loved it, and I worked hard to polish it for sale, but never got a single order. So here's the whole thing for free.

SAND TANKS
Released 11/19/07
Windows DirectX 8
What can one do with an endless tiled 3D landscape and endless fleets of procedurally generated spaceships? Well, one can certainly make a mindless action game with explosions and powerups. Pretty and simple, but I didn't feel it had anything new to offer. Lots of fun for 10 minutes, though.

ALTITUDE
Released 9/16/2007
Windows DirectX 8
Inspired by Meteos on the DS, this block dropper game lets you drag blocks around to match 3, like normal. However, doing so launches the blocks above the match into the air. If the launched blocks can match 2, all of that color are cleared. It's mouse or stylus driven fun!

GEMSHOT
Released 7/28/2003
Windows desktop
This is a fun little game where you drag back a slingshot and shoot a ball at gems that move down the screen. Don't let them get to the bottom!

AXELLUS
Released 4/22/2003
Windows desktop
This is a fun little game where you drag back a slingshot and shoot a ball at alien ships that move down the screen. Don't let them get to the bottom!

BEERTRIS
Released 8/21/2003
Windows desktop
This is a falling-block game. The innovative concept is that the falling blocks form interconnected pipe structures. Every 8th block is actually a "keg" full of liquid, and when that drops into place, it fills the connecting tubes with the liquid, and destroys them.

BLOBBOS
Released 8/12/2000
Windows DirectX 3
My niece and nephews were too young to enjoy the Creatures games; they couldn't deal with their critturs dying. So I wrote a simple, gentle genetic creature toy for young kids. I sold this game for years, but now it's free.

AOTS SHOOTER
Released 1/22/2008
Windows DirectX 8
AOTS is a pop culture show on G4TV. They ran a video contest, and I thought I could win the big-screen TV if I not only made a video, but a video game to go with it. Alas, twas not to be. But enjoy the game, if ya want!

RETRO SHOOTER
Released 1/25/2006
Windows DirectX 8
Inspired by another indie game, I set my procedural generation skillz to work on chunky, retro looking 2D ships. I wrapped a fairly traditional shooter around them, then learned from Shaun Noel, and really amped it up!

BLOCK MEN
Released 1/1/2008
Windows DirectX 8
I've done some work with an amazing artist in Australia named DayDream. One day he showed me some cube-shaped vikings and monsters, and I made a simple RTS for them. How do vikings with no arms fight? They headbutt the enemy!

TUNNEL SHOOTER
Released 9/11/2007
Windows DirectX 8
After building yet another 3D procedural spaceship generator, I had to use its output. Remember the old game tail gunner? This is an homage. Fun, but not very deep. Every 6th wave has a big boss, though.

BUSTASHIP
Released 5/7/2007
Windows DirectX 8
This is a really simple experiment. In it, you fire a big ball at enemies. The enemies stick to it, and each other, and then the ball explodes, taking the stuck enemies with it. Sort of an action puzzle fusion, but it never went anywhere.

DEMON DEN
Released 5/30/2007
Windows DirectX 8
After seeing Dwarf Fortress, I said to myself, "How hard can it be? Besides, I can make a much prettier game with a much better UI." Well, with this game I learned a lot about systems games design and programming, and I have a new respect for the Dwarf Fortress guys.

SPARK TUNNELS
Released 10/7/2007
Windows DirectX 8
This is a simple FPS, where you move thru alien tunnels to find flying energy "sparks", and take pictures of them with the space bar. The pics end up as TGA files in the game folder.

TECH SYNTH
Released 7/31/2007
Windows DirectX 8
I wanted to make procedurally generated monster growls, but after a day of fooling around, I realised just how much I didn't know about sound generation. So I built this simple additive synth tool to explore. Since then it's been occasionally useful.
